Court Remands French National For Defiling Minor

The magistrate postponed the case until July 20 for further consideration.

A Family Court in Iyaganku, Ibadan, has remanded Emilien Salingue, a French National, for the alleged defilement of a six-year-old girl.

Salingue will remain in the Agodi Correctional Facility till the next hearing.

Mrs. P. O. Adetuyibi, the Chief Magistrate, dismissed Salingue’s plea for lack of jurisdiction.

She ordered his remand pending legal advice from the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The magistrate postponed the case until July 20 for further consideration.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Oluwakemi Arowosaye told the court that Salingue, a French national, defiled the minor on April 7 at around 1:25 p.m.

According to Arowosaye, the suspect lured the minor to his friend’s room and allegedly defiled her.

She claimed the offence violated Section 34 of the 2006 Oyo State Child Rights Law.
