Soldiers Assault Police Officers During Patrol In Kwara, One Cop Injured, Suspects Arrested

Ilorin, Kwara State– Police authorities in Kwara State have arrested three personnel of the Nigerian Army following an alleged attack on police officers during a routine patrol along the Shao–Malete Expressway, SaharaReporters-style findings have revealed.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at about 5:45pm, when a patrol team from Shao Division intercepted two motorcycles along the busy expressway.
According to a police situation report obtained by Afrika Eyes, three occupants of one of the motorcycles, later identified as serving soldiers of the Nigerian Army, reportedly alighted and began confronting the officers who stopped them.
Police explained that the confrontation quickly escalated, with the soldiers allegedly attempting to disarm the policemen.
Hiwever, the situation degenerated into physical violence, during which one officer, PC Abdulganiyu Abdullateef, sustained varying degrees of injuries.
According to police, the patrol team immediately called for reinforcement from the division.
However, before backup officers arrived at the scene, the three soldiers fled. One civilian rider, Saka Suleiman, a male resident of Shao who was riding the motorcycle, was arrested at the scene.
During interrogation, Suleiman reportedly identified one of the fleeing soldiers as Saka Jamiu, also a native of Shao.
Following intelligence-led operations, police officers tracked down and arrested the remaining suspects in the early hours of Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at about 1:00am.
Those arrested were identified as Atunwa Adekunle, Ishola Awolola, and Saka Jamiu, all males from Shao and confirmed to be personnel of the Nigerian Army.
A dagger knife was reportedly recovered from the suspects during the arrest.
Afrika Eyes gathered that the arrangements are ongoing to transfer the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Ilorin for discreet and comprehensive investigation.
