Boko Haram Now Controlling Three Communities In Borno- Senator Ali Ndume

The security agencies are overstretched and under-equipped

Abuja, NigeriaSenator Ali Ndume has raised alarm over the growing control of Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State, revealing that the extremist group is governing three communities in the state in the absence of civil authority.

The Borno South senator made the disclosure during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, insisting that the situation in parts of the state has reached a critical level.

“Yes, three,” Ndume confirmed when asked if any communities were being administered by Boko Haram terrorists. “What we are saying is that there is no civil authority there, and the authority is Boko Haram.”

Ndume identified the affected areas as Gudumbali in Guzamala Local Government Area, Marte, and Abadam, all located in the northern part of the state, which has long been plagued by insurgent violence.

“There are no civil authorities in these places,” he emphasized. “None.”

The senator, who is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), expressed deep concern about the capacity of Nigeria’s security forces to adequately respond to the insurgency.

He argued that military personnel are not well-equipped to match the terrorists’ firepower and tactics.

“The security agencies are overstretched and under-equipped,” he said. “From November last year till date, there were over 250 attacks in the state, and somebody is saying we should ignore the governor.”

Ndume’s remarks come in the wake of a similar warning by Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, who recently expressed frustration at the escalating security crisis in the state.

During a high-level meeting earlier this week, Zulum lamented what he described as a reversal in progress against Boko Haram.

“As I address this important gathering today, it is unfortunate that the renewed Boko Haram attacks and kidnappings in many communities almost on a daily basis without confrontation signal that Borno State is losing ground,” Governor Zulum said.

Ndume echoed the governor’s concern, adding that the human toll of the ongoing violence is staggering.

“We have lost more than 100 soldiers, nearly 300 civilians even though our soldiers gallantly killed 800 of those terrorists within this period,” he disclosed.

He described the situation as a “stagnated” war effort and called on President Bola Tinubu to take bold action to address the deteriorating state of affairs.

“I think the President should declare a state of emergency on three critical fronts: security, the welfare of the people, and the economy,” Ndume urged.

The resurgence of Boko Haram attacks and the group’s increasing foothold in remote communities have once again highlighted the fragility of peace in Nigeria’s North-East region, despite repeated claims by federal authorities that the group has been technically defeated.

Local residents in some of the affected areas have reportedly fled their homes, while others remain trapped under insurgent rule, cut off from government services and humanitarian aid.
