Abuja, Nigeria– The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed February 20, 2027, as the date for Nigeria’s next Presidential and National Assembly elections.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, made the announcement on Friday during a press briefing in Abuja, where he outlined the commission’s roadmap and readiness for the crucial national exercise.
According to Amupitan, elections into the National Assembly—the Senate and the House of Representatives—will be conducted on the same day as the presidential poll, February 20, 2027.
He further disclosed that governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections across the federation have been scheduled for March 6, 2027.
“The commission is fully prepared for the exercise,” Amupitan said, stressing that INEC has drawn lessons from previous elections and is committed to delivering a transparent, credible, and inclusive electoral process.
He noted that the early announcement of dates was in line with the commission’s statutory responsibilities and aimed at giving political parties, aspirants, civil society groups, and other stakeholders ample time to prepare.
