Lecturer Abducted Along Kabba–Okene Road As Army Rescues Other Victims
Soldiers of the Nigerian Army stationed in Kabba were said to have responded promptly after receiving a distress alert, moving to the scene in an attempt to repel the attackers and rescue the abducted travellers.
Lokoja, Kogi State– A lecturer at the Federal College of Education (FCE), Okene, has been abducted by armed kidnappers along the Kabba–Okene Road in Kogi State.
Afrika Eyes gathered that the abduction reportedly occurred on Friday, January 9, 2026, when gunmen launched an attack on commuters travelling along the busy Kabba–Okene corridor, a major highway linking parts of Kogi State with neighbouring states.
A local platform Egbe Mekun quoting sources familiar with the incident, the assailants intercepted vehicles plying the road.

While the military intervention reportedly led to the successful rescue of several victims, the lecturer from FCE Okene was taken away by the kidnappers during the operation.
As of the time of filing this report, the identity of the abducted lecturer had not been officially disclosed by either the school authorities or security agencies.
It also remains unclear whether the kidnappers have made contact with the victim’s family or demanded a ransom.
Community leaders and frequent road users are once again calling on the Kogi State Government and the Federal Government to urgently strengthen security along major highways, particularly the Kabba–Okene Road, through sustained patrols, intelligence-led operations, and improved coordination among security agencies.
