Two Women Arrested For Allegedly Supplying Arms To Bandits In Nasarawa 

The suspects and the recovered ammunition have been handed over to the Department of State Services

Lafia, Nasarawa State -Two female suspects, Rashida Umar and Rukaiya Ladan, have been arrested in Nasarawa State on charges of allegedly supplying arms to criminal bandits operating in the region.

The suspects were arrested at 177 Gds Bn CP in Akwanga, following credible intelligence reports indicating the movement of individuals suspected of trafficking arms.

The suspects were said to be transporting weapons from Fadan Karshe in Sanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, headed towards Akwanga.

Law enforcement agencies, acting on the tip, swiftly intervened and arrested the two women, while conducting a thorough search, they discovered over 1,000 rounds of 7.62mm x 39mm special ammunition in the possession of the suspects.

Further investigations revealed that Rashida Umar and Rukaiya Ladan were allegedly en route to deliver the illicit ammunition to an as-yet-unidentified arms dealer in Kontagora, Niger State.

The suspects and the recovered ammunition have been handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS) for a comprehensive investigation.

Meanwhile, the arms trafficking operation has raised concerns over the proliferation of illegal arms, which has contributed to the worsening security situation in various parts of the country.
