Truck Driver Arrested After Hit-And-Run Incident Leaves Pedestrian Injured On Lagos Highway
The pedestrian suffered severe injuries, including a broken left leg
Ikeja, Lagos State- A truck driver has been arrested by Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officials following a hit-and-run incident that left a pedestrian critically injured.
It was gathered that the accident occurred on Monday at approximately 11:45 a.m. at Anthony Oke, on the route heading towards Oshodi Bus Stop.
LASTMA officials on duty quickly responded to the situation, pursuing the fleeing driver and eventually intercepting and arresting him at Oshodi Oke.
LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki confirmed that the driver, operating a truck registered to a flour mill company in Apapa with the license plate JJJ 764 XV, was apprehended after hitting the pedestrian who was crossing the expressway near the Total Filling Station at Anthony Oke.
The pedestrian suffered severe injuries, including a broken left leg, and was initially treated by Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) personnel before being transported to a nearby hospital for urgent care.
Bakare-Oki assured that the agency is committed to the safety and security of all road users in Lagos and will continue to work closely with law enforcement to prosecute traffic offenders.
“Our thoughts are with the injured pedestrian, and we urge all road users to follow traffic laws strictly and prioritize the safety of both pedestrians and other motorists,” Bakare-Oki added.
