Senator Saliu Mustapha Inaugurates Committee To Empower Smallholder Farmers With Fertilizers
The committee would monitor and oversee the distribution of fertilizers.
Ilorin, Kwara State– Senator Saliu Mustapha, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agricultural Production Services and Rural Development, on Tuesday, inaugurated a committee to support smallholder farmers in the state by providing fertilizers to boost their agricultural produce during the year’s farming season.
The former commissioner for Water Resources and one-time chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Kwara State Chapter, Alhaji Adebayo Ahmed Ayodele, who chaired the committee, disclosed that the project will ensure the seamless distribution of fertilizers to genuine farmers across the four local government areas of the senatorial district.
While speaking at the inauguration of the committee, the legislative assistant to the Senator, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulkadir Tunde, said the project aimed to support genuine farmers across the senatorial district.
Mr Tunde noted that the committee would monitor and oversee the distribution of fertilizers.
He, however, urged members of the committee to be transparent and upright in carrying out the assignment.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the committee appreciated Senator Mustapha for the opportunity given to them to carry out the task and promised not to betray the trust and confidence the senator has in them.
