Saudi Arabia Confirms Ramadan Moon Sighting, Fasting Begins Saturday
As a result, the holy month will officially begin on Saturday, March 1.
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – The crescent moon signaling the start of Ramadan has been sighted in Saudi Arabia, the moon sighting committee confirmed on Friday evening.
As a result, the holy month will officially begin on Saturday, March 1.
Observatories across the Kingdom, including Sudair and Tumair, confirmed the sighting, marking the commencement of the 9th month of the Islamic Hijri calendar, a period of fasting, prayer, and reflection for Muslims worldwide.
Ahead of the sighting, the Saudi Supreme Court had urged Muslims to look for the crescent on Friday and report any sightings to the nearest court or observation center.
While the committee leads the effort, individuals are also encouraged to participate in the moon sighting process.
Ramadan holds deep spiritual significance for Muslims, as they fast from dawn to sunset, engage in increased prayers, and seek spiritual purification.
The sighting aligns with expectations and follows the traditional lunar calendar method used to determine Islamic months.
