Pro-Wike Rivers Assembly Lawmakers Issues 7-Day Ultimatum To Gov Fubara Over 2024 Budget

Ehie and the other pro-Fubara lawmakers passed the budget estimates, and the governor signed the bill into law

Portharcourt, Rivers State– The Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule, has issued a seven-day ultimatum to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, demanding the re-presentation of the 2024 budget.

The Amaewhule-led faction, which aligns with the Minister of the Federal Capital During a special session held on Monday, where Assembly members expressed concerns over discrepancies and omissions in the initial budget proposal submitted by the governor’s office.

This directive came during the first sitting of the pro-Wike assembly following a favorable ruling by the Appeal Court.

Meanwhile, a parallel session led by Victor Oko-Jumbo is taking place, where a commissioner-designate is being screened.

Governor Fubara had initially presented the budget to an assembly loyal to him, with his current Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, presiding as Speaker.

The pro-Fubara lawmakers passed the budget estimates, and the governor subsequently signed the bill into law, emphasizing its focus on promoting economic development, inclusive growth, and addressing socio-economic inequality in the state.

Fubara had earlier presented the budget to the House loyal to him when his current Chief of Staff Edison Ehie presided as the Speaker.
