PDP Board Of Trustees Endorses Ude Okoye As Authentic National Secretary
The meeting also addressed security concerns following recent violent incidents.
Abuja, Nigeria— The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) has recognized Ude Okoye as the party’s authentic National Secretary.
The endorsement, which came during an emergency meeting held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja on Wednesday, calls for an immediate swearing-in of Okoye by the party’s national working committee.
The meeting was attended by prominent party figures, including BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara and BoT Secretary Senator Ahmed Makarfi. Former governors Achike Udenwa, Sam Egwu, Babangida Aliyu, and Senator Ben Obi were also present.
Meanwhile, the BoT reviewed reports presented by former Minister of Special Duties, Tamini Turaki, who had been tasked with scrutinizing court documents submitted by both the incumbent PDP National Secretary, Samuel Nayanwu, and Sunday Udeh-Okoye—who has been actively contesting the legitimacy of the current office-holder.
In his opening remarks, BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara lauded the involvement of PDP governors in urging the National Working Committee to convene a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in March.
“It is imperative that we address our internal challenges with transparency and prompt action,” Wabara stated, emphasising the need for unity within the party.
The meeting also addressed security concerns following recent violent incidents, which have led to a temporary suspension of gatherings at the Wadata Plaza until adequate security measures are in place at the PDP secretariat.
The precautionary measure was introduced to ensure the safety of all party members as they navigate through the turbulent period.
The crisis intensifies as both Ude Okoye and Senator Samuel Anyanwu claim legitimacy over the PDP Secretary’s office.
However , the internal discord has deepened divisions within the party, posing a challenge to party cohesion ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.
