Nigerian Police Shield Billionaire’s Sons ‘Okoya’ Over Naira Abuse, Arrest Officer In Viral Video

Many Nigerians have called for equal accountability for the billionaire’s sons involved in the incident.

Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian Police have arrested a police officer captured in a viral video involving the sons of Lagos billionaire industrialist, Chief Rasaq Okoya, who were seen abusing the Nigerian currency.

In the video, which surfaced online, the officer was seen holding bundles of cash reportedly handed to him, while the sons of Chief Okoya flaunted and mishandled them in a widely circulated video.

In a statement released on Friday via his X handle, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the officer’s arrest and detention.

Adejobi condemned the officer’s conduct, describing it as unethical and against police professional standards.

He said the involvement of the policeman in such an act has been identified and addressed. The disciplinary process is ongoing.

The video, which have been circulated online, showed a lack of respect for the naira, a violation of Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act.

Many Nigerians have called for equal accountability for the billionaire’s sons involved in the incident.

The statement read,  “The policeman captured in the recent viral video shared by the sons of the lagos businessman, Chief Okoya, where they were abusing the naira, has been identified and detained for disciplinary action.

“The involvement of the policeman has been condemned, as it’s unethical. We will always strive hard to uphold the sanctity, credibility, and core values of the police,” Adejobi added.
