Meningitis Outbreak Kills 65 Children In Jigawa
The state has recorded over 257 cases in 18 out of the 27 local government areas in the state as a result of the disease.
No fewer than 65 persons, mostly children, have died as a result of the Cerebrum Spinal Meningitis (CSM) outbreak in Jigawa State.
This was confirmed by the state epidemiologist at the ministry of health, Samaila Mahmud while responding to questions from newsmen over the outbreak of the disease.
He said the state has recorded over 257 cases in 18 out of the 27 local government areas in the state as a result of the disease.

Out of the number of cases recorded so far, 65 people have lost their lives, he explained.
Data revealed that the outbreak of the disease in the state began last month and the case worsened in Nigeria/Niger republic border local government areas in the state.
Some of the villages said to record a high rate of cases include; Mele, Dungundun, Kanya Arewa and Dantanoma villages in Babura; Gumel, Maigatari and Suletankarkar Local Government Areas in Jigawa North West.

Although, the Jigawa State Government in collaboration with Save the Children International have intensified efforts to address the problem through engaging communities across the six most affected LGAs to strengthen their capacity for early preparedness and response to mitigate future outbreaks.
