Kwara Doctor, Nurses Arrested Over Missing Umbilical Cord, Placenta

How could an umbilical cord and a placenta of a new baby be missing when we all know the implications?

Ilorin, Kwara State- Operatives of the Kwara State Police Command have arrested five medical staff, including a doctor, over the missing umbilical cord and placenta of a newborn baby from the Government Cottage Hospital in Iloffa, in the Oke-Ero local government area of the state.

It was gathered that a new mother, identified as Mrs Williams C.B.A, raised the alarm about a missing placenta and umbilical cord following the delivery of her baby last Sunday.

Speaking with journalists, the nursing mother of the newborn baby said that three women were present, two of them were nurses, while one was a ward attendant.

According to her, while they were taking the delivery, a particular woman came and said that she was supposed to be on duty that day.

She claimed she had taken permission to travel and was just returning. She was also present during the delivery, making the total number of women present four. Later, she was also invited by the police.

She said that when she discovered the placenta was missing, she called a specific woman, who was also a ward maid but not among those who assisted with her delivery during the night shift.

“That was when I flared up with some members of my church who were also present when I discovered that the placenta was missing. I called a specific woman, also a ward maid, but not among those who attended my delivery during the night shift, to assert that it’s not possible that they just had to present the placenta.”

Mrs Williams’ father, Mr Rufus Sanya, said he suspected foul play.
