Kwara CP Caution Political Supporters To Desist From Destruction Of Opponents’ Billboard

Destruction of Banners and Billboards is a crime against the freedom of expression

Kwara State Police Command has advised all political gladiators to warn their supporters against defacing and destroying opponents’ billboards.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Paul Odama gave the admonition in a statement signed by the command’s PRO, Okasanmi Ajayi.

He said the destruction of Banners and Billboards is a crime against the freedom of expression as enshrined in the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria, it is also morally unjustifiable.

According to him, Consequently, any person or group of persons found in the act of destroying or defacing any political party posters or billboard would be arrested and prosecuted.

The commissioner advised parents and guidance to warn their children and wards against becoming tools in the hands of some mischievous politicians who are hell-bent on jeopardizing the level playing ground.

Mr Odama said the command has promised and worked hard to achieve the goal of peaceful, free and credible elections come 2023.

He reiterates that his determination to end the negative acts of billboard destruction has directed all the Divisional Police officers in the state to intensify patrols within their Areas of Responsibility ( AORs) to ensure that no billboard or postal of any political party is defaced or destroyed.

He, however, said  DPOs are warned to be prepared to face the consequences of dereliction of the directives.
