Gunmen Reportedly Shot Lawyer Dead In Benue
Ofikwu was ambushed by two armed assailants while waiting for his gate to be opened at his residence on Otukpa Street.
Makurdi, Benue State- A lawyer, identified as Mike Ofikwu, was reportedly shot dead by suspected gunmen on Wednesday night, in Otukpo town, Benue State.
Ofikwu was ambushed by two armed assailants while waiting for his gate to be opened at his residence on Otukpa Street.
It was gathered that the gunmen appeared suddenly and shot the lawyer multiple times before fleeing the scene.
A source said, “Two armed men had set up an ambush. As he waited for his people to open the gate, the assailants emerged and shot him at close range.”
The victim was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival by medical personnel.
Catherine Anene, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, confirmed the incident in a brief statement on Thursday, noting that an investigation was ongoing to capture those responsible for the attack.
“This incident is confirmed, and investigations are ongoing. I commiserate with his family and friends and assure them that justice will be served,” she said.
