FCT Police Commissioner Redeploys Ushafa DPO Over Viral Slapping Incident

He emphasized that the act fell short of the discipline, civility, and professionalism expected of members of the Nigeria Police Force.

Abuja, Nigeria- The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Miller G. Dantawaye, psc, has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ushafa Division following a viral video showing the officer slapping a young man.

The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.

In a statement released by the FCT Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the Commissioner condemned the officer’s behaviour, describing it as “unprofessional and unacceptable.”

He emphasized that the act fell short of the discipline, civility, and professionalism expected of members of the Nigeria Police Force.

“The officer’s conduct is not in line with the values of the Force. Such behaviour will not be tolerated under my leadership,” CP Dantawaye stated.

He confirmed that the DPO has been redeployed to the State Headquarters pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

The Commissioner added that appropriate disciplinary measures are being taken to ensure accountability.

CP Dantawaye further cautioned all Divisional Police Officers and their subordinates to uphold professionalism, courtesy, and respect for human rights while discharging their duties.

He warned that any act of misconduct or abuse of power would attract severe sanctions.

The Commissioner also appealed to members of the public to remain law-abiding and to engage respectfully with police personnel to foster effective community policing and public safety.
