EFCC Arrests Former Labour Minister Chris Ngige In Abuja After Social Media Kidnap Rumours

Amid the rumours alleging that the former minister had been kidnapped, Chukwulobe dismissed the claims as false and sensational.

Abuja, Nigeria– Former Anambra State governor and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, has been arrested in Abuja by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The development, which triggered a speculation across social media late Wednesday, was confirmed in a statement issued by his media aide, Fred Chukwulobe.

Amid the rumours alleging that the former minister had been kidnapped, Chukwulobe dismissed the claims as false and sensational.

He clarified that Ngige was neither abducted nor missing, but had voluntarily honoured an invitation from the EFCC and is currently in the agency’s custody.

“I have been receiving calls in the past hour from friends and journalists seeking the veracity of the news making the rounds that His Excellency, Dr. Chris Ngige, former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, ‘has been kidnapped.’ Ngige is with the EFCC. He was not abducted or kidnapped,” Chukwulobe stated.

Details surrounding the EFCC’s invitation remain unclear as of press time, and the anti-graft agency has yet to release an official statement on the arrest.

Ngige, a two-time minister and one-time governor, has maintained a prominent presence in national politics.
