DSS Arrests Osun Islamic Cleric Over ‘Free Palestine’ Protest Video
Sheikh Molaasan, a leader of the Ta’awunu Muslimeen group, was reportedly taken into custody after the video surfaced online and drew the attention of security agencies.
Osogbo, Osun State– The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested an Osun State–based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Daood Imran Molaasan, following the circulation of a video in which he and members of his group called for a “Free Palestine” protest.
Sheikh Molaasan, a leader of the Ta’awunu Muslimeen group, was reportedly taken into custody after the video surfaced online and drew the attention of security agencies.
The arrest was triggered by concerns within security circles over the potential implications of the call for public protest.
It was gathered that the DSS action was part of its ongoing intelligence-led operations aimed at monitoring public gatherings and online mobilisations that could escalate into threats to public order and national security.
Although details surrounding the arrest remain sketchy, the DSS is said to be examining the context, intent and possible consequences of the video, as well as the activities of the group involved, in line with Nigeria’s internal security laws.
The development comes amid heightened vigilance by security agencies over protests and religious mobilisation across the country, particularly those linked to international conflicts.
