Lokoja, Kogi StateOkehi Local Government Area of Kogi State has imposed a curfew following the state government’s ban on political rallies and gatherings, a move that coincides with preparations for a homecoming rally by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The Executive Chairman of Okehi LGA, Amoka Eneji, announced the curfew in a statement on Tuesday, stating that it was effective immediately.

“The curfew restricts movement and gatherings in certain areas,” Eneji said. “Anyone found in restricted areas without permission from relevant authorities will be arrested and charged to court. This is in line with the directive of the state government and the Kogi State Commissioner of Police.”

The curfew declaration follows an earlier warning by the Kogi State Police Command, which urged Senator Natasha to cancel her planned homecoming rally due to security threats.

“The call for cancellation becomes necessary, noting that intelligence reveals that some hoodlums plan to hijack the process and cause a disturbance of peace in the state. The command cannot afford to jeopardize the existing peace the state is currently enjoying,” said the Kogi Police Command spokesman, William Aya.

Senator Natasha, who represents Kogi Central, has been embroiled in controversy in recent months. She was suspended by the Senate last month for alleged breaches of legislative rules, and there are ongoing moves to recall her from the Red Chamber.
