BREAKING: Bandits Ambush Ilorin–Egbe Bus, Driver Shot On Kwara–Kogi Border

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when heavily armed bandits emerged from the bush and opened fire on the vehicle.

Lokoja, Kogi State– Suspected bandits have once again struck along the Ilorin–Egbe highway, ambushing a commercial bus in a violent attack between Eruku and Egbe, on the border of Kwara and Kogi states.

According to reports obtained by Afrika Eyes, the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when heavily armed bandits emerged from the bush and opened fire on the vehicle.

A short video obtained by Afrika Eyes showed the bus riddled with bullet holes, with visible blood stains on the driver’s seat, suggesting that he sustained gunshot injuries during the attack.

The driver, identified as a native of Isanlu, was said to have been rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

Sources also revealed that among the victims were a trader from Egbe and another passenger described as a Hausa merchant whose identity had not been confirmed at the time of filing this report.

Local residents expressed worries over the renewed wave of banditry along the Kwara–Kogi corridor, calling on the authorities to take immediate action to secure the highway.

They urged the Chairman of Yagba East Local Government Area to work closely with his Yagba West counterpart to intensify joint security patrols and forest surveillance in the region.

“This road has become a death trap. Hardly a week passes without hearing about one kidnapping or attack,” a resident lamented. “We are pleading with both state governments and security agencies to come to our aid before things get worse.”

Meanwhile, Eruku–Egbe axis has increasingly become a hotspot for criminal gangs operating between Kwara, Kogi, and parts of Ekiti State.
