Adeleke Sworn In As Sixth Osun Governor, Renames State

The Chief Judge of the state, Adepele Ojo, administered the oaths

Ademola Adeleke and Kola Adewusi, have been sworn in as the Governor and Deputy Governor of Osun state, respectively.

The swearing-in ceremony was held at the main bowl of Osogbo City Stadium  Osogbo in Osun State. While Mr Adeleke took his oath of office at about 11:50am,

The Chief Judge of the state, Adepele Ojo, administered the oaths.

At the ceremony were the Presidential Candidate of the PDP and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, his wife, Titi, his running mate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Governors of Akwa Ibom, Sokoto, Bayelsa States and the minority leader of the House of Representatives, Ndidi Elumelu.

Meanwhile, the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has reversed the name of the State from “State of Osun” to “Osun State” and also reversed its appellation from “The State of the Virtues” to “The State of the Living Spring”.

Mr Adeleke also reversed all appointments made by the immediate past governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, effective from July 7th, 2022.

Governor Adeleke ordered that all government bank accounts be frozen.

However, the immediate past governor in a farewell statement to Osun residents, said his administration is leaving behind ₦14 billion cash in the state treasure.

He noted that his government had paid ₦97 billion of the debts it inherited from the administration of Rauf Aregbesola in 2018.

Mr Oyetola added that the results of the last gubernatorial election as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which favoured Senator Ademola Adeleke is already being challenged at the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
