AbdulRazaq Champions Inclusive Governance For PWD In State Policy-Making
I am committed to accommodate your needs within the resources available to us
Ilorin, Kwara State– Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Tuesday, explained the rationale behind appointing individuals with disabilities to key positions within his administration.
AbdulRazaq emphasized the importance of diverse perspectives, the governor stated that the appointments were a deliberate effort to ensure that the voices of persons living with disabilities are actively involved in shaping the policies and decisions of the state.
The governor addressed the audience at the celebration of this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities in Ilorin, the state capital.
Represented by Senior Adviser and Counselor Alhaji Saadu Salahu, the governor said that he harbors no regrets about making that decision.
It would be recalled that in June, the governor appointed two Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) as Permanent Secretaries.
“At the start of this administration, I observed society’s tendency to dissociate from individuals with special needs. Deliberately, I conducted the budget meeting with the management of all MDAs at the School for Special Needs to bring awareness to the challenges you are facing.”
“We aim to acknowledge your contributions to national development and inspire hope that there is no limit to the heights we can attain in society, regardless of our peculiarities.”
AbdulRazaq assured persons living with disabilities of his administration’s commitment to accommodating their needs within available resources. He described the theme of the event, “United in action to rescue and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals for persons with disabilities.”
“One of you was appointed into this government to represent your community, and we’ve appointed persons with special needs to senior roles in the civil service. This reflects our commitment to inclusivity, enabling you to contribute your voice to governance issues. I have no regrets about this significant decision.”
“I want to emphasize that our administration maintains an open-door policy, welcoming people of all categories without discrimination. You are highly esteemed by the government, and I am committed to accommodate your needs within the resources available to us,” AbdulRazaq added.
