Governor Uzodimma Regrets Alleged Assault On NLC President Post-Election
The government of Imo State regrets any assault meted on the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress
Akwa, Imo State– Governor Hope Uzodimma has expressed deep regret over the reported assault of Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), by security operatives in Imo State.
Ajaero was picked from the NLC State Council Secretariat in Owerri on Wednesday, November 1, by heavily armed police officers. He was then taken to an undisclosed location where he was reportedly brutalized at the hands of the state’s police authorities.
Following his victory in the Imo Off-cycle Governorship election over the weekend, Uzodimma has expressed regret on behalf of his government for the ordeal the labour leader faced in the state. However, he simultaneously condemns “the attempt by the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress to take the leadership of Imo State for granted,” he stated.
“The sponsored antagonism between Imo State and the national leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress, politically sponsored antagonism – we are already handling,” Uzodimma said on Tuesday, November 14 at a meeting with the Imo State Council of Elders at the Government House in Owerri.
“The government of Imo State regrets any assault meted on the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, but at the same time condemns in its entirety the attempt by the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, to take the leadership of Imo State for granted,” he said.
