16-Year-Old Girl Allegedly Gang-Raped, Killed In Jigawa

The body of 16-year-old Habiba Samaila was discovered in a well in the Ringim community of Begúwa Local Government Area in Jigawa State a few days after she had been reported missing.
Her family alleged that she was gang raped by her boyfriend and his friends before her body was thrown into an old well on the outskirt of the village.
It was gathered that the deceased was formally reported as missing on Saturday, August 12, 2023.
However, her family members embarked on a fruitless search for her during the intervening period on Wednesday, August 16, a distressing incident occurred while on their way to the farmland, certain residents detected a repugnant odour emanating from the well.
The body was evacuated by security operatives and the body was laid to rest in accordance with the customs and practices of the Islamic faith.
The spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Lawan Adam, confirmed the incident on Saturday, August 19, and said that an ongoing investigation is currently in progress.
The image maker stated that police operatives have arrested the primary suspect who was reportedly in the company of the deceased at a wedding prior to her being reported missing.
