Troops Arrests 12 Suspected Terrorists Linked To Mahmuda Faction In Kwara
The group is believed to be responsible for a string of terrorist activities in border communities spanning Baruten and Kaiama Local Government Areas in Kwara
Ilorin, Kwara State– Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested 12 suspected members of the Mahmuda terrorist group, a breakaway faction of Boko Haram, during a series of raids in and around the Kainji Lake National Park in Niger State.
The group is believed to be responsible for a string of terrorist activities in border communities spanning Baruten and Kaiama Local Government Areas in Kwara State and Borgu LGA in Niger State.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Obinna Onubogu, disclosed the arrests during a recent operational visit to military bases in Kaiama and Baruten.
He said the arrests were made during intensive raids under the ongoing counter-insurgency mission codenamed Operation Park Strike IV.
“Troops combed over 90 kilometres from Kemanji into the Kainji Forest, successfully dislodging the insurgents and criminal elements occupying the area,” Gen. Onubogu stated.
He further confirmed that two of the arrested individuals have been verified as active members of the Mahmuda group, while the others are suspected accomplices aiding the insurgency.
The GOC reassured residents of the military’s commitment to restoring peace and urged continued cooperation with security forces to ensure long-term stability in the region.
