Tinubu Creates Ministry Of Livestock Development To Tackle Farmers-Herders Crisis
The Ministry of Livestock Development will focus on implementing strategies to mitigate conflicts between farmers and herders,
Abuja, Nigeria– President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday created the Ministry of Livestock Development to resolve the longstanding issues between farmers and herders.
The announcement was made during the inauguration of the Renewed Hope Livestock Reform Implementation Committee, which will oversee the new ministry’s initiatives.
The Ministry of Livestock Development will focus on implementing strategies to mitigate conflicts between farmers and herders, promote sustainable livestock farming practices, and enhance the productivity of the livestock sector.
Present at the inauguration were Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and other cabinet members.
In September 2023, President Tinubu approved the establishment of a Presidential Committee focused on reforming the livestock industry and providing long-term solutions to the recurring clashes between herders and farmers in the country.
