Take-It-Back Seeks Police Protection For  Protest Against #EndBadGovernance In Kwara State

We are committed to conducting this protest peacefully and respectfully, and we have outlined our demands as follows

Ilorin, Kwara StateThe Take-It-Back movement has sent a letter to the Kwara State Commissioner of Police requesting security protection for the planned peaceful protest against #EndBadGovernance in August.

In a statement signed on Tuesday, Buhari Olanrewaju Ahmed said that the protest is meant to voice concerns and demands for a better Nigeria.

The statement read, “I am writing to you on behalf of the Take It Back Movement, a group of law-abiding citizens committed to advocating for positive change in our beloved nation, Nigeria. We are organizing a peaceful protest scheduled to take place from August 1st to August 10th, 2024, from Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari Road to Government House.

“Given past incidents where sponsored thugs have infiltrated peaceful protests, causing chaos and destruction, we are seeking your assistance to ensure the safety and security of all participants.

“We are determined to prevent history from repeating itself, and we believe that with your support, we can maintain peace and order throughout the protest.

“We are committed to conducting this protest peacefully and respectfully, and we have outlined our demands as follows.

“Scrap the 1999 Constitution and replace it with a people-made constitution for the Federal Republic of Nigeria through a Sovereign National Conference, followed by a National Referendum.

“Abolish the Senate arm of the Nigerian Legislative System, retain the House of Representatives (HOR), and make lawmaking a part-time endeavour.

“Implement a minimum wage of no less than N250,000 monthly for Nigerian workers and invest heavily in education and provide grants, not loans, to Nigerian students. Pursue free and compulsory education for children nationwide.”

“Release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally and demilitarize the South East and renationalize publicly owned enterprises sold to government officials and cronies.

“Reinstate a corruption-free subsidy regime to reduce hunger, starvation, and multidimensional poverty, probe past and present Nigerian leaders who have looted the treasury, recover their loot, and allocate it to fund education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

“Restructure Nigeria to accommodate diversity, resource control, decentralization, and regional development.”

“Reform Security Agencies to stop human rights violations, reduce duplication of agencies and enhance the physical security of citizens and establish a Special Energy Fund for corruption-free power sector development.

“Reconstitute the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove corrupt individuals and ensure free and fair elections, invest in public works and industrialisation to employ Nigeria’s youth.

“Shake up the Nigerian judiciary to remove corrupt judges and officers, ensuring citizens have access to justice.

“We sincerely request your cooperation in deploying adequate security personnel to protect protesters and prevent any attempt by miscreants to disrupt our peaceful demonstration. We also hope to establish open lines of communication with your team to address any concerns or issues that may arise during the protest.

“Thank you for your attention to this matter. We trust in your commitment to uphold the law and protect the rights of citizens to peacefully express their views. We look forward to your positive response,” he said.
