Suspected Lakurawa Terrorists Kill Two Police Officers In Kebbi
The attack occurred in the early hours of January 3 at Garin Natshini Gada, within Argungu Local Government Area.
Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State- Gunmen suspected to be Lakurawa terrorists, reportedly affiliated with Jama’at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin (JNIM), have attacked a police checkpoint in Kebbi State, killing two officers.
It was gathered that the attack occurred in the early hours of January 3 at Garin Natshini Gada, within Argungu Local Government Area.
It was learnt that the armed assailants stormed the checkpoint, overpowering the police officers on duty.
Zagazola Makama made this known on his X handle, disclosed that attackers, allegedly riding motorbikes, overran a police checkpoint, overpowering the officers stationed there.
However, during the attack, they seized two AK-47 rifles and other items and rustled several cattle.
He noted that a police patrol vehicle was left abandoned at the scene of the assault.
“Troops from Forward Operating Base (FOB) Argungu, supported by elements from Augie, responded promptly with clearance patrols to the area, located about 10 kilometers from Argungu town. However, by the time they arrived, the attackers had already fled.
“Local sources told the troops that the attackers escaped along known withdrawal routes. The military has since secured the area and launched a pursuit operation to track down the assailants.
“The bodies of the fallen police officers have been recovered and sent to the morgue, while efforts to apprehend the attackers and recover the stolen cattle are ongoing. Security forces have intensified operations to restore peace in the region,” he added.
