Suspected Fulani Herdsmen Set Plateau Community Ablaze, Kill 11 Persons
The gunmen not only took lives but also caused extensive damage by destroying crops, setting numerous houses on fire
At least eleven persons were killed by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen, in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, set houses on fire and caused injuries to several others.
It was gathered that on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at about 10:00 p.m., a group of gunmen suspected to be killer herdsmen launched an invasion on the Kulben community in the Kunbum District of the council when the inhabitants were about to go to bed.
A source from the community disclosed that the gunmen, numbering in the hundreds, embarked on a shooting rampage, indiscriminately taking lives, with a particular focus on those attempting to flee for their safety.
According to the source, the operation extended for over an hour. Furthermore, the gunmen not only took lives but also caused extensive damage by destroying crops, setting numerous houses on fire, and inflicting injuries upon many people, with a significant number of victims being children and women.
“Armed Fulani Militia attacked Kulben Community in Kombun District of Mangu Local Government. The incident, which occurred at about 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, left 11 people killed, others injured, and property destroyed,” the source told the Nigerian Tribune.
The eleven persons killed by the gunmen were given a mass burial at about 12:30 pm on Monday while those who sustained injuries were taken to the Mangu General Hospital for treatment.
The Chairman of the Mwaghavul Development Association in Kombun District, Dr. Elisha, also confirmed the attack.
“From the information I got, 10 people were killed during the invasion. I’m on my way to the village,” he said.
