Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State– A Nigerian soldier has been caught on video allegedly brutalising a civilian man and subjecting him to degrading and harsh punishment at Prison Junction along Afao Road in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

In the disturbing video obtained by Afrika Eyes, the soldier is seen forcing the unidentified man to lie face-down on the ground while raising his legs in the air, a punishment often associated with severe physical strain and humiliation.

The voice of the individual who recorded the incident could be heard trembling and crying in the background, expressing deep sympathy for the victim.

The person repeatedly lamented the man’s suffering, questioning why such cruelty was being inflicted on a civilian by someone entrusted with protecting citizens.

Afrika Eyes gathered that soldiers stationed at Prison Junction on Afao Road have allegedly turned the area into an illegal checkpoint, where motorists are routinely harassed and extorted.

According to multiple accounts, drivers, commercial tricycle (Keke) operators, motorcycle (Okada) riders, and even private car owners are frequently stopped and forced to part with money under various pretexts.

Several residents alleged that refusal to comply with the illegal demands often results in intimidation, physical assault, or other forms of punishment similar to what was captured in the viral video.

Community members expressed anger and disappointment, noting that the presence of soldiers in the area, which should ordinarily enhance security, has instead become a source of anxiety and abuse.

Following the circulation of the video on social media, residents have called on the Nigerian Army authorities in Ekiti State to act swiftly.

They urged the Commandant and relevant military leadership to immediately investigate the incident and ensure that the soldier involved, as well as any others engaged in extortion and brutality, are identified and prosecuted.
