Rivers Police Arrest Imo Jail Escapee For Murder

The suspect allegedly killed two persons in his community before fleeing

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested a suspect who escaped from the Owerri Correctional Centre, Imo State during a jailbreak in 2021.

The state Commissioner of Police, Nwonyi Emeka, disclosed this at a press conference in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Tuesday.

According to the police commissioner, the suspect, Peter Ogudo, hails from the Awara community in the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State.

Emeka said the suspect allegedly killed two persons in his community before fleeing to Rivers State in a bid to escape justice before operatives stormed his hideout in Rumuolumeni, outskirts of Port Harcourt.

He said, “On June 2, 2023, operatives of the command arrested one Peter Ogudo, 32, a native of Awara in the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, in his hideout at Nkpor- Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, for the murder of two persons in his community.

“The suspect had been on the watch list of the police since he escaped from lawful custody during a jailbreak in the Owerri Correctional Centre in April 2021.”

In another development, Emeka said operatives arrested a two-man car-snatching syndicate during a stop-and-search operation in Port Harcourt.

Emeka said the suspects could not give a good account of themselves when they were accosted, leading to their arrest.

He said, “On June 2, 2023, operatives of the command, while conducting a stop-and-search, arrested one Ndubuisi Brown, aged 48 and one Amaechi Kenneth, aged 35, and could not give a satisfactory account of the said vehicle, along Army Range Road, Eneka.

“Exhibit recovered included one red Lexus 300 SUV with Lagos number plate APP 664 BQ.”

The police commissioner also said operatives raided the house of one Prince Ake of the Ekpena community in the Ahoada East Local Government Area, which he said was the hideout of members of the Greenlander cult group.

He added, “Operatives arrested one Progress Moses, aka Body Blinks, aged 25 of the same address.

“Exhibit recovered included one locally-made wooden AK-47 rifle, one toy pistol, two motorcycles, one with number plate WER 301 QJ Imo State and the other without a number plate.

“Also recovered were one machete, one knife and some suspected charms.”
