Rivers APC Chairman Gives Governor Fubara Ultimatum: Resign Or Face Impeachment

Speaking at a news briefing in Port Harcourt on Monday, Okocha criticised Fubara’s recent invitation to pro-Wike lawmakers for a meeting, calling it a “Greek gift.”

Port-Harcourt, Rivers State– The political crisis in Rivers State has taken a new turn as the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tony Okocha, has demanded that Governor Siminalayi Fubara either resign or face impeachment.

Speaking at a news briefing in Port Harcourt on Monday, Okocha criticised Fubara’s recent invitation to pro-Wike lawmakers for a meeting, calling it a “Greek gift.”

The meeting, scheduled in response to a Supreme Court judgment, was intended to address issues such as assembly sittings, outstanding allowances, and the state budget.

Meanwhile, in a letter dated March 9, signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, was addressed to Speaker Mathew Amaewhule, informing him of the governor’s willingness to meet with the legislators.

However, instead of easing tensions, the Supreme Court’s ruling has fueled further division, with both factions interpreting it to their advantage.

Okocha accused the governor of disregarding the rule of law and insisted that his only choices were to step down or be removed from office.

“The invitation to the lawmakers is a Greek gift. The Supreme Court judgment is final. There is nothing anybody can do about it. The only option available to the governor now is for him to resign or be impeached,” Okocha declared.
