Police Nab Fake Soldier In Bauchi

Bauchi State- The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested one Aminu Mohammed, a 30-year-old accused of masquerading as a Nigerian Army soldier to commit fraud.

Mohammed was arrested following an investigation into reports of fraudulent activity, where he allegedly deceived a victim by promising to secure a job with the Nigerian Army in exchange for a substantial fee.

In a statement released on Thursday, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the spokesperson for the command, confirmed the arrest of a suspect from Magaji Quarters.

He said that the suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate Divisional Police Headquarters (C Division) for impersonating Nigerian Army personnel for two years.

Wakil noted that the act violates sections 110 (1) and 251 of the Criminal Code.

The statement read, “The arrest was made on July 22, 2024, after a complaint was filed against him. Aminu Muhammad collected the sum of two hundred and ten thousand naira (N210,000.00) from an unsuspecting individual under the false representation of assisting in securing a job with the Nigerian Army.

“Furthermore, the suspect deceitfully directed his victim to meet his friend (who is currently at large) to facilitate his entry into the military training school in Zaria. However, after spending eight days in Zaria, the victim could not meet the individual who was supposed to take him to the training school.

“Preliminary investigations have shown that the culprit had never served or worked with the military before his arrest. However, he had obtained a pair of camouflage trousers from his friend, who is serving military personnel.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, psc, Anipr, has ordered the transfer of the case for a discreet investigation at the state criminal investigation department to uncover more facts that will aid in prosecution.”
