PDP Cries Out To Donald Trump, Says Democracy Under Siege As FCT Minister Allegedly Deploys Thugs To Party Secretariat

Abuja, Nigeria– The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appeal to United States President Donald Trump, urging him to come and save democracy in Nigeria after thugs allegedly loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory stormed the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday.

Newly elected National Chairman of the PDP, Taminu Turaki, made the call while addressing journalists outside the secretariat, flanked by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed.

Earlier, a video obtained by Afrika Eyes showed the governors and Mr. Turaki being barred from entering the secretariat by security operatives.

They were eventually forced in after police fired teargas to disperse supporters who resisted the blockade.

Visibly angered, Turaki condemned the violence, accusing the FCT Minister of leading armed thugs to disrupt the party’s activities.

“President Trump, what is at stake is not just genocide against Nigerian Christians — he should come and save democracy in Nigeria,” Turaki said. “Democracy is under threat. I’m calling on all other developed nations, all advanced democracies, to come and save Nigeria, to come and save democracy.”

He questioned how a serving minister could lead troops, armed thugs, and act with the support of the police to create mayhem at a party’s national office.

“I cannot understand how a certain Minister of the Republic of Nigeria will be leading troops — armed troops — with the support of the police to create mayhem here. We are ready to lay down our lives to protect our office, to protect our democracy, to protect our mandate.

Turaki vowed that PDP leaders were prepared to lay down our lives to protect our office, protect our democracy, and protect our mandate.

“Nigerians, you’re watching what is happening. International community, you’re seeing the threat to Nigerian democracy. Come and save us. Come and save democracy.

“We will not be intimidated. We will defend our mandate with everything we have,” Governor Makinde saidappealed Bala Mohammed adding that the attack “shows how desperate those in power have become,” he added.
