Ondo Gov, Akeredolu Dies After Prolonged Illness
Late Akeredolu is survived by his wife, Betty, children and grandchildren.
Akure, Ondo State– The Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, is dead, the 65-year-old governor had been bravely battling leukaemia and prostate cancer, facing health challenges that ultimately led to his demise.
Akeredolu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), ex-president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and ex-Attorney General of Ondo State, was a second-term governor before his death.
The ailing governor had recently returned to Nigeria after a three-month medical leave in Germany. Upon his return in September, he continued to oversee the governance of Ondo State from his residence in Ibadan.
However, following President Bola Tinubu’s directive, he was required to go on another leave of absence in December 2023. As per the President’s instructions, he handed over control to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who had been serving as the Acting Governor during his absence.
