Ogun Police Officers Arrested For Allegedly Demanding Money To Investigate Missing Girl

Abuja, Nigeria- The Nigeria Police Force has arrested some officers attached to the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly demanding money from the family of a missing seven-year-old girl before taking action on the case.
The girl, whose mother is a point-of-sale operator, was reportedly kidnapped by one of her mother’s regular customers.
The incident occurred after the suspect purchased food for the child and sent her on an errand to buy a sachet of water.
When the mother reported the abduction to the police, officers allegedly demanded ₦10,000 to file the case and ₦30,000 to track the suspect’s phone number.
Conforming the arrest of the officers by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, in a post on his X handle on Saturday.
Adejobi condemned the officers’ actions, stating the police force’s zero tolerance for extortion and corruption.
He said, “Otta missing girl: The policemen who demanded money before they could attend to the case have been arrested and are now in detention for disciplinary action.
“We condemn such an act and will not tolerate it. It is inhuman, apathetic, and unprofessional.”
“The Ogun State Police Command has been on the case. The girl will be found as soon as possible. We also urge the family of the victim to cooperate with the police,” he added.
