A nursing mother named Adijat lost her life due to a gunshot wound while she was taking a bath.
Adijat, the victim, was attacked by unidentified assailants in her own bathroom on the night of Tuesday, September 19, at about 10 pm.
It was gathered that the harrowing incident took place in the Oke-Akute area of Iba, located within the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State.
Adijat, who belonged to the Fulani tribe, was in the midst of caring for her three-month-old baby before this unfortunate event occurred.
Following the attack, she was swiftly transported to a private hospital in Iree, where she remained under medical care since Tuesday.
However, despite the medical efforts, Adijat succumbed to her injuries on Thursday, September 21.
The spokesperson for the Osun command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kehinde Adeleke, confirmed the incident and stated, “The identity of the perpetrators remains unknown at this time, but we are actively working to apprehend those responsible and bring them to justice.”
A resident from the community earnestly pleaded with the security agencies to intensify their efforts in capturing the suspects.
His plea was made in an attempt to alleviate the fear and anxiety that have gripped the residents due to such incidents.
He noted that a similar occurrence had taken place in the community about two years ago, leaving the community members still living in fear.
