2023 Census: NPC, NOA Organised Capacity Building Workshop In Kwara

An organization that strives to achieve success must be in a position to constantly convey information to all its stakeholders

The National Population Commission in a collaborative effort with the National Orientation Agency in Kwara State organized a capacity-building workshop in preparation for the 2023 Population and Housing Census.

Speaking at the workshop, the Commissioner for National Population Commission in Kwara State, Alhaji AbdulRasak Folorunsho Gidado, disclosed that it has become imperative to re-energise the advocacy and publicity campaign to properly educate and enlighten Kwarans on the need to support the successful conduct of the 2023 census.

The one-day Capacity Building Workshop is organized for Management Staff and the community mobilizing officers of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in various LGAs of Kwara State.

Mr Gidado noted that Information is power, its possession and proper dissemination make all the difference in the attainment of individual aspirations or organizational goals.

“The conduct of this important workshop underscores the determination of the Commission to effectively mobilize Kwarans not only for the 2023 Census but also for other activities of the Commission.

“The Commission wishes to leverage on the grass root reach of the National Orientation Agency and collaborate with them in areas where the NOA have comparative advantages over the Commission such as in community engagements, field sensitization campaigns, and engagements with traditional institutions, Mr Gidado said.

He expressed satisfaction that the workshop is put together to energize the information machinery of the Commission in collaboration with the NOA.

He said the workshop aims is to ensure broad based grass root support and cooperation for the implementation of the activities of the National Population Commission, especially the coming census 2023.

The commissioner, however, urged all the participants to familiarize themselves with the technical processes of the conduct of the 2023 Census and other activities of the Commission, to be able to forge the much-needed national consensus and handle any bias or prejudice arising from the outcome of the exercise.

Also speaking, Alhaji Sa’eed Adebayo Yusuf, the Kwara State Director of the National Population Commission, said that the 2023 Population and Housing Census will be Nigeria’s first digital census.

He explained that innovative digital tools and technology have been already used in the preparatory activities for the 2023 census.

He assured Kwarans credible, accurate, reliable and successful census.

The Kwara State Director of the National Orientation Agency, Mr Olusegun Adeyemi, said over the years the agency has deployed its robust structure to impart positive orientation in the citizens for the attainment of a prosperous Nigeria.

He said the unique selling point of the agency is that its has a presence in all the States and local government areas and could speak the language of the people in all the nooks and crannies of the country.

He, however, said NOA through its public enlightenment strategy, has a key role to play in getting the cooperation of the citizenry for the 2023 Census.
