Kwara NPC Debunks Reports Of Inclusion Of Ethnicity In Recruitment Of Functionaries

The commission has no capability to force people to register but rather to make announcements to the general public.

The Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission, NPC, in Kwara state, Alhaji Abdulrazaq Folorunsho Gidado, on Wednesday, debunked the reports that the agency had included ethnicity in the process of recruiting functionaries for the 2023 census project.

Mr Gidado, while addressing the Omo Ibile Igbomina stakeholders at their National Secretariate in Ganmo, said ethnicity is not in NPC culture.

He explained that the commission has no capability to force people to register but rather to make announcements to the general public.

It would be recalled that Mr Gidado announced last year  that the online recruitment portal for the 2023 Population and Housing Census will be opened on October 28 and would close after two months, by December 28.

He said the responses from the various local government vary, stating it clear that it is not the fault of the commission.

“We should not give room for the mischievous makers, Igbomina is part of Kwara and no one will compromise the harmony in the state.

“I instructed all the controllers to reach out to the traditional rulers in the state so that the indigenous people will be able to apply for NPC training as functionaries both supervisors and enumerators.

The Commissioner calls on the stakeholders to disregard the fake and misleading message which is clearly the antics of mischief makers.

Mr Gidado said his door is always open for further discussion.

 

In his speech, the National President of Omo Ibile Igbomina, Elder J.Y Jimoh, applauded Alhaji Abdulrazaq Folorunsho for not being partial while discharging his responsibility as a commissioner.
