Man Commits Suicide By Jumping Into Kogi River Amid Hardship

The eyewitness noted that one of the reasons for the person’s decision to take his own life was the current hardships faced by the country.

An unidentified man committed suicide near Ganaja Bridge, just a few meters from the renowned Dunamis Church in Lokoja, Kogi State.

It was gathered that on Tuesday afternoon, September 12, 2023, the deceased arrived at the bridge, parked his tricycle, and tragically plunged into the river, citing his exhaustion as the reason for his actions.

An eyewitness reported feeling deeply shocked when they witnessed the deceased taking his own life.

The eyewitness noted that one of the reasons for the person’s decision to take his own life was the current hardships faced by the country.

“There was nothing anybody could do when the Keke Man jumped into the river. When he jumped, we saw a snake, and there was nothing anyone could do at that moment,” he told the Nigerian Tribune.

The spokesperson of the state Police Command, SP William Aya, confirmed the incident and stated that the Nigeria Marine Police Force had been deployed to the river to retrieve the body of the deceased.

“We are yet to get details of the incident. Our officers have been mobilised to recover the body of the deceased. As soon as we get details, our unit will issue details of the sad incident,” the PPRO stated.
