Kwara State Government Acts On Afrika Eyes Kidnapping Report

Ilorin, Kwara State– In response to the recent Afrika Eyes Special Report shedding light on the alarming rise in kidnappings and terror incidents perpetrated by criminal groups within Kwara State communities, the state government on Wednesday took decisive steps to address the situation.

It would be recalled that Afrika Eyes reports how some Fulani gangs terrorized Kwara Communities and attacked a filling station in the Sabaja area of Iwo Community, Isin local government area of Kwara State.

They abducted the station manager, a security guard, and a cleric from the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), while Mr. Raphael Adewuyi was shot and killed in the process.

In a separate incident that occurred on July 13, 2023, five people were kidnapped by gunmen in Isanlu Isin, within the same local government area.

However, the victims were later rescued from a forest near the locality through the coordinated efforts of local hunters, vigilantes, and law enforcement officers.

Also, a mother and her three children were recently kidnapped in the Ajelete community within the Agunjin district of Ifelodun Local Government Area, where the abductors requested a ransom of N100 million for the safe release of the mother and her three children.

Afrika Eyes reported how Sikiru Kola, a young businessman from Jebba in the Moro local government area of Kwara State, was kidnapped at his residence by the gunmen.

The same week some suspected Fulani herdsmen launched an attack on the community of Alalubosa in Asa local government of Kwara state, where one AbdulRasheed Alafara, lost his life after being shot by the kidnappers, while other three people were severely injured.

Following the investigation of a kidnapping case by Afrika Eyes, the Kwara State Government, in partnership with security forces, launched security surveillance operations in Isin LGA and its neighbouring regions on October 4, 2023.

It was gathered that the initiative aims to restore peace and safety to rural communities within the state.
