Police Kill Suspected Kidnapper, Rescue Victim In Delta

Operatives of the Police Command in Delta has neutralised a suspected kidnapper and rescued a victim in the state.

The command’s spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe, disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday in Warri.

Mr Edafe said that the deceased was neutralised by the police operatives attached to the Ozoro Police Division in Isoko North Local Government Area of the state.

He said that the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Ozoro division, CSP Ogedengbe Areguamen, had received a distress call on Tuesday that suspected assailants had attacked the residence of the kidnapped victim.

Mr Edafe further added that the suspects shot at the victim at his residence on Owhelogbo Road, Ozoro, forced him into the trunk of his car and whisked him away.

“The DPO upon receiving the information on Dec. 13, at  about 0200hours, mobilised and led Police operatives/vigilantes to Owelogbo Road, and other exit routes in Ozoro in a bid to rescue the kidnapped victim.

“Their effort paid off when they sighted a Corolla car with a registration number that matched the description given by the distress caller.

“In an attempt to intercept them, the suspects abandoned the victim in the trunk of the car, disembarked from the vehicle, fired some shot while escaping into a nearby bush,” he said.

The command’s spokesman said the unrelenting Police operatives went after them and successfully neutralised one of the suspects while three others escaped.

He said that the kidnapped victim was rescued and taken to the hospital for treatment, adding that his vehicle and one locally made cut-to-size double barrel gun were recovered.

Mr Edafe said that efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects were ongoing.
