Defection: Kwara Speaker Declares Lawmaker’s Seat Vacant
He said Mr Guyegi ought to have vacated his seat, having defected from All Progressives Congress (APC), on whose platform he was elected, to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly Engr. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, has declared the seat of its member representing the Edu Constituency, Hon. Ndamusa Mohammed Guyegi, vacant.
The Speaker of the House, Yakubu Danladi, announced the development on Wednesday after reading a letter by Hon. Ndamusa Mohammed Guyegi, on his defection from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Social Democratic Party, SDP.
The Speaker said he had breached Section 109 (1) G of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria as amended.

He said Mr Guyegi ought to have vacated his seat, having defected from All Progressives Congress (APC), on whose platform he was elected, to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Mr Danladi said since there is no division in the APC, the lawmaker had no basis to dump it for another party.
The Speaker therefore directed the Clerk to the House, to communicate the development to the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Kwara State accordingly.

Ndamusa, becomes the second member of the House whose seat would be declared vacant by the Speaker of the House as a result of defection to another political platform.
It would be recalled that Hon Saheed Popoola’s seat, (Ojomu/Balogun) was declared vacant by the Speaker following his defection to the SDP.
