Kwara Police Nab Two Suspected Kidnappers, Rescue Victims
Two of the kidnappers were arrested with gunshot injuries
The Kwara State Police Command said its operatives have arrested two suspected kidnappers in a forest and rescued two victims unhurt during the operations.
The incident occurred on September 13, 2022, according to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Okasanmi Ajayi.
“Recall that on 13/9/22 at about 2320hrs a Kidnapping incident occurred in Shao, Kwara State and one Afusat Lawal and her son, Taofeek Lawal were abducted and taken away.
“Kwara state Police Command wishes to inform the public that the victims have been rescued after an intensive and painstaking search and rescue operation by the Command’s Tactical teams supported by Vigilante and hunters.
According to him, “Two of the kidnappers were accosted in the bush while preparing to share the ransom already collected from the family of the victims they opened fire on the operatives immediately the kidnappers sighted them, in the ensuing exchange of fire.
The police spokesman said two of the kidnappers were arrested with gunshot injuries and were taken to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital Ilorin where were confirmed dead.
Mr Ajayi explained that their corpses were deposited in the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Items recovered from them include one Honda Accord Saloon car with Reg. Number, GJ 52 LSR and one single barrel gun.
Meanwhile, the rescued victims have reunited with their families after being certified medically stable.
He, however, said, efforts are still being intensified to get other fleeing members of the gang arrested.
