Kwankwaso’s Son Resigns As Kano Commissioner For Youth And Sports Shortly After Governor Abba Yusuf’s Defection To APC

His resignation came barely days after reports emerged that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Kano State– Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, son of former Kano State Governor and National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has resigned his appointment as the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development in Kano State.

His resignation came barely days after reports emerged that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso was a member of the Kano State Executive Council, serving under the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

In a statement released on Monday, Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso formally announced his resignation, describing the decision as difficult but necessary.

“It is with a heavy heart that I announce my resignation as Honorable Commissioner, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and Member of the Kano State Executive Council,” the statement read.

He expressed gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the opportunity to serve, despite the unfolding political realignments.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the opportunity to serve the great people of Kano State. I have cherished the experiences and lessons gained while serving, and I appreciate the trust placed in me,” he stated.

Kwankwaso’s son further emphasized his concern for the future of young people and sports development in the state, noting that his departure should not derail ongoing programmes targeted at empowering Kano youths.

“As I resign, I pray that the youth of Kano State will continue to receive the attention and support they deserve. I hope for the best for our sports development programs and initiatives, and I am confident that they will flourish in the years to come,” he said.

“May Allah (SWT) continue to shower His blessings on our beloved Kano State. I wish the government and people of Kano State all the best.”

The resignation has fueled speculation about deepening cracks within the Kano political structure, especially amid reports of Governor Yusuf’s alleged move to the APC.

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and a two-time presidential candidate, remains one of the fiercest critics of the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. His political base in Kano has historically stood in opposition to the APC, making his son’s resignation a strong symbolic statement.
