They were apprehended by officers attached to the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Goron Dutse, while allegedly trying to throw drugs to inmates at the court premises.
Kano State – The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, has arrested two men for allegedly attempting to smuggle Indian hemp and other illicit drugs to inmates at the Nomansland Court Complex.
In a statement on Wednesday, Kano Command’s Spokesman, CSC Musbahu Lawan-Kofarnasarawa, identified the suspects as Usman Khalid, 25, and Bello Musa Ahmed, 24, both residents of the Tsamiya (Brigade) area of Kano State.
They were apprehended by officers attached to the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Goron Dutse, while allegedly trying to throw drugs to inmates at the court premises.
The Controller of Corrections in Kano State, Ado Inuwa, condemned the act, warning members of the public against mingling with inmates during transportation to and from court.
He said such acts constitute serious security breaches and are punishable under the law.
Mr. Inuwa reaffirmed the NCoS’s commitment to the rehabilitation and reformation of inmates, emphasizing that attempts to undermine its mandate would not be tolerated.
He directed the Command’s Legal and Intelligence Units to hand over the suspects and seized substances to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
The NCoS Kano Command reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on drug-related activities within custodial facilities and court premises, urging the public to cooperate with security agencies to maintain law and order across the state.
