ISWAP Freed Abducted Borno Medical Doctor After 11 Months In Captivity
The insurgents took Bulama and other abducted victims to the fringes of Lake Chad
The Principal Medical Director of Gubio General Hospital, Borno State, Dr. Geidam Bulama, who was abducted in March 2022 by the Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP), has been released.
Mr Bulama was abducted last year when ISWAP attacked Gubio Local Government Area which is about 70kms from Maiduguri.
Meanwhile, before he was abducted, Bulama was the only doctor covering the entire Gubio Local Government Area.
According to Zagazola Makama, a Counter-Insurgency Expert and Security Analyst in the Lake Chad Region, during the abduction of Bulama, the insurgents had promised his wife that they would not kill him.
Sources said that the insurgents took Bulama and other abducted victims to the fringes of Lake Chad where he was forced to treat wounded fighters and their families for several months.
A source said efforts of the state government and the security agencies led to the release of Mr Bulama.
Shortly after Bulama was released, he was moved to Maiduguri where he was reunited with his family.
