IGP Egbetokun Condemns ‘Senseless’ Plateau Killings As Police Arrest Two Suspects In Bokkos

Abuja, Nigeria — The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has condemned the recent spate of killings in Plateau State, describing the attacks as “utterly senseless” and a grave assault on national peace and security.

The condemnation followed his visit to Plateau State on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, where he assessed the security situation and met with stakeholders in the aftermath of the violence that has gripped communities in Bokkos and Bassa Local Government Areas.

In a statement issued Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP expressed deep sadness over the tragic loss of lives, saying,

“The acts of violence witnessed in Plateau are not only reprehensible but are an affront to the peace and stability we strive to maintain as a nation.”

As part of efforts to contain the crisis, the Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the Bokkos killings.

The suspects are currently assisting with the ongoing investigation.

“Preliminary investigations and responsive operations have led to the arrest of two individuals believed to be connected to the attacks. We are committed to uncovering the motives, identifying all culprits, and bringing them to justice,” the police statement read.

The IGP has directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Kwazhi Dali Yakubu, mni, to take charge of police operations in the state and coordinate efforts to restore normalcy.

DIG Yakubu has since led aerial surveillance missions over Bokkos and Bassa and has been engaging with community leaders to build confidence and reassure residents of police presence.

Following a comprehensive review of the security situation, the IGP also ordered the immediate deployment of additional police personnel and resources to Plateau State. The deployments are aimed at boosting rapid response capabilities, improving patrol coverage in high-risk areas, and gathering intelligence to prevent further violence.

“These strategic deployments are crucial to not just managing the current crisis, but preventing future occurrences. We are intensifying surveillance, community engagement, and intelligence gathering to ensure peace is restored,” the IGP stated.

Egbetokun called on residents to remain calm and support security agencies with relevant information.

“We understand the fear and frustration, but we urge citizens to cooperate with law enforcement. We are determined to end this cycle of violence.”

The IGP also extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of victims, emphasizing that the Police Force stands in solidarity with the people of Plateau State.

“The Nigeria Police Force is resolute in its commitment to protect lives and property. We will ensure that the perpetrators of these heinous crimes are brought to justice,” he added.
