DSS Operatives Neutralise Three Bandits, Recover AK-47 Rifles In Niger State
The bandits were caught off-guard in a well-coordinated attack by the operatives
Minna, Niger State — Officers of the Department of State Services (DSS) neutralised three notorious bandits during an ambush in Dogon Dawa, Mairiga Local Government Area of Niger State, late Friday night.
It was gathered that the bandits were caught off-guard in a well-coordinated attack by the operatives. While three were neutralised, others fled into nearby bushes, reportedly sustaining bullet wounds.
However, the DSS team recovered three AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing assailants, marking a blow to banditry in the region.
Vanguard reports that Friday’s ambush by the Department of State Services (DSS) was the culmination of weeks of intelligence gathering and the interception and analysis of communications among the bandits.
According to a security source, the operation was one of several daring missions conducted by the DSS in the Northwest and Northeast, leading to the neutralization or capture of numerous bandits terrorizing innocent citizens in the regions.
The DSS has also carried out successful operations against the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the South-East.
“The intelligence gathered by the DSS has been instrumental in assisting the military and other security agencies in neutralizing or capturing terrorists across various parts of the country,” the source revealed.
Since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Mr. Tosin Ajayi as Director-General of the DSS, the agency has intensified its intelligence-gathering efforts and increased collaboration with the military and other security agencies.
This cooperation has significantly reduced ambushes on military and security personnel while contributing to the dismantling of IPOB elements in the South-East.
A military officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, acknowledged the DSS’s contributions: “The successes achieved by the DSS and the support they have provided us are remarkable, especially since President Tinubu appointed a highly competent individual to lead the agency.
“While many of the DSS’s achievements aren’t widely reported, it appears the new DG is staying true to his promise of returning to the covert operations that characterized the agency’s early days. But I can confidently say that the DSS has been a tremendous asset to us in the military.”
As part of his broader security reforms, President Tinubu recently pledged to support the DSS in leveraging artificial intelligence to combat insecurity in Nigeria.
He made this commitment during the investiture ceremony for graduates of the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS) Executive Intelligence Management Course 17 in Abuja last month.
